Managing Director, Joseph Buccheri was honoured to have participated in the second Alibaba Dream Trip to Alibaba’s Headquarter in Hangzhou on 6-9 August run by ISynergi. IMPEX were the only law firm to have particpated together with the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and 12 Australian companies ranging from healthcare, high-tech, coffee and Food and Beverage industries joined the trip and explored export opportunities through Alibaba’s platforms together.

The Alibaba Dream Trip is an intensive training course for senior executives and business owners to understand how Alibaba and e-commerce as the game changer helps SMEs to develop into international trade and step into the China market.

The 4-day-3-night trip consisted of abundant analysis and insights into China market and e-commerce industry, including e-commerce development in China, Alibaba’s organizational culture, B2B and B2C platforms under Alibaba’s ecosystem and case studies. The highlights in the Dream Trip such as communicating with successful e-businessmen enriched and impressed Australian business owners with first-hand knowledge and market intelligence, which provided benchmark and confidence for them to emerge into the Chinese growing e-commerce business by adopting Alibaba platforms.

In addition to the study of e-commerce, attendees were also invited to Alibaba Founder and Executive Chairman Jack Ma’s Private Host House, to visit the many tourism attractions in Hangzhou and to try the local food, which brought more local experience, hospitality and cultural understanding for the Australian attendees to get prepared for China market entry strategies.

IMPEX was proud to attend a VIP celebration for the 20th Anniversary of the hand over return of Hong Kong to China. In attendance was the Victorian Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings and Federal Minister for Revenue & Financial Services Kelly O’Dwyer MP.

IMPEX was proud to support the Shadow Minister for Trade in Victoria Mr. Craig Ondarchie at a luncheon to raise awareness about the current state of the economy as it powers the nation forward. Guest speaker was the 43rd Premier of Victoria between 1992 to 1999 Jeff Kennett AC where our Managing Director Joseph Buccheri had the opportunity first hand to sit with the former Premier throughout the luncheon to discuss the future business opportunities Victoria holds as it capitalises on international trade and investment linkages world-wide.

 

 

As part of IMPEX support of the bilateral exchange of law skills and knowledge between China and Australia, our senior solicitor Mark Harris actively mentored Mr. Han for 1 month as a visiting member of the Jiangsu Bar Association in conjunction with The Sir Zelman Cowen Centre & Victoria University Law School.

IMPEX supported the Hong Kong Australia Business Association Food & Wine Appreciation Dinner held at the Sheraton Melbourne. Guests enjoyed a sumptuous 9 course food extravaganza with paired matching wines from leading wineries Tellurian & Sutton Grange.

Members of the IMPEX team visited Hong Kong to build the foundations of its strategic alliance with leading accounting and business advisory firm CW CPA.

During the trip the IMPEX team had the opportunity to meet with various government bodies including InvestHK represented by Mr Philip Kung. Mr Kung has been with Invest Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Special Administration Region Government department established to help attract and retain foreign direct investment, as the Head of Business & Professional Services since January 2001. Prior to that, he has held several high-level positions in private consultancy firms and the Hong Kong Tourism Board. Mr Kung also is an entrepreneur having established and operated his own businesses in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Brazil.

He holds degrees of MBA in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona and Bachelor of Commerce from University of Calgary, Canada.

He reads, writes and speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese; in addition, he speaks Portuguese.

IMPEX was pleased to have been selected to support the Asian Australian Lawyers Association in conjunction with the Shandong Lawyer Association and the Shandong Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs to host Mr. Andy Nie- Lawyer, from the Shandong Qianyuan Law Firm for 1 month to experience the practice of law in Australia with our firm.

These arrangements are in bilateral mutual respect under the auspice of the Chinese Australia Free Trade Agreement between our 2 countries. Our Managing Director Joseph Buccheri was able to arrange an opportunity for Mr. Nie to meet the Australian Trade Minister Andrew Robb and hear first-hand about issues facing both countries relationship including:

1. Ameliorating pollution issues in China
2. Providing Food safety and purity standards to China consumers
3. Professional Services: Legal, Health, Technology, Bio.
4. Specifically: Aged Care expertise
5. Development of the tropics of Australia for population and business/economic growth.
